Chapter 6: Echoes of Fate

Chapter 6: Echoes of Fate

Zylxa and the young man tumbled out of the portal onto a barren, desolate land. The ground beneath their feet was dry and lifeless, stretching endlessly under a strange, purplish sky. No buildings or signs of human habitation were visible as far as the eye could see.

Zylxa brushed the dust off her clothes and sighed, "So... this is life?"

The young man took a deep breath and smiled, "Yes, why? Kyko, isn't it right? No sound of gunfire, no shooting. Maybe this peace doesn't suit you, Zylxa."

"I am Kyko! In a new form."

"Ah! So you're Kyko! And the other is your brother, Psycho." Zylxa looked at him sharply.

The young man laughed and said, "Oh! So you've figured out my name?"

"What do you mean? Is your name 'Psycho'?"

He nodded, smiling.

"You make good jokes. But we need to think about getting out of here... I don't want to get roasted like a chicken in this scorching heat," Zylxa sighed, exhausted.

"Life is like a flowing river—it keeps moving on its own. There's no need to control it."

"Wow, Professor Psycho! But a 'flowing' life won't give us food and water. We have to arrange for our bread ourselves."

"Amarpal Singh, my name," he said, looking around. Then he picked up some soil and clenched it in his fist. "This soil hasn't seen water for centuries. So there's no point in staying here. Let's try opening the portal again."

Zylxa activated her visor to detect any signs of life. A slight energy wave was detected in the north-western direction.

"There's something that way. Maybe a colony," she said.

"Good," he said. "You go. I'll stay here."

"What do you mean 'go'? Aren't you coming?"

"No. If you want to use your superhuman powers to check, go ahead with enthusiasm. I'll wait here."

Zylxa looked at him sharply, "Sorry! I'll go first. I'll find out and come back to tell you."

"I'm a farmer's son. I don't need any tools to test the soil. So I can confidently say this place isn't suitable for us to live."

"That's right. But we've already escaped once by fate. Who knows where the portal will open next time?"

"॥ Sri Akal Sahai ॥"

"What do you mean?"

"Some things should be left to fate."

"And even here, your fate has brought you."

"Yes, your point is valid, but fate has also given us the portal device."

Zylxa looked at him thoughtfully. There was a mix of disappointment and curiosity. She knew how firm this young man was in his beliefs. But even after using the portal again, who knows if the situation might get worse.

She sighed. "Alright. One last time. Whether it turns out good or bad—we won't use it again."

He smiled and said, "Deal. Besides, Kyko said this portal device can only be used twice."

In the next moment, the young man activated the portal with Kyko's help. He stepped in without hesitation. Zylxa also followed, though hesitantly.

Now the portal opened into a lush green forest. Both of them fell near a stream among tall trees. The stream was gurgling ahead, and the air was fresh—as if it were a dream.

Zylxa took a deep breath, her tension easing. "Finally," she said. "A real place!"

The young man pressed his fingers into the damp soil. "Where there are resources, there is also greater danger. But..."

"Do you not like it here now?"

"It's not that. It's just a matter of being cautious. Beauty often invites danger."

Zylxa pointed towards the river. "Come on. For now, we need water and food, and there are fruit trees ahead."

They walked towards the edge of the stream. Zylxa plucked some ripe fruits and threw one towards him. He caught it and washed it in the water. Then he muttered something.

"This," Zylxa said, "is truly a peaceful life."

"How can there be peace in such a resource-rich forest? It's really strange."

"I am Kyko! In a new form."

"Yes, how could we forget you! You've brought us to this heavenly forest."

"Look here on its screen, it's showing 99%. Maybe it's Kyko's upgrade figures."

"I am Kyko! In a new form."

"Hope your guess is correct."

"Well, Professor 'Psycho', I mean Amarpal Singh, this name isn't too long."

"Haha, did I seem shorter to you?"

“Yes, it is… but how about if I call you Exo—ExotixGuy? It suits you. You don’t even seem like others.”

He smiled faintly. “exo or exotixGuy — the name isn’t that important to me, not when I’m stranded on alien Earth with a savior like you.”

“Okay, so confirmed — Exo— ”

Her words were still unfinished when a sudden explosion shattered the calm. Both of them spun around in shock.

“I am Kyko! In a new form.”

“A spaceship has crashed in the river five degrees northeast from here. Heat analysis shows three dead, two life signs.”
