Chapter 2: A Perilous Journey
Chapter 2: A Perilous Journey
The night seemed as if the car wasn't driving on a road but on rough, uneven mounds. He checked his phone to see his location and realized he was far from the city. The road was bumpy, and the driver was maneuvering the car like a snake, making the ride in the trunk unbearable for the young man. He removed his earphones, but the roaring engine and blaring music gave him a headache. The honking of passing vehicles seemed faint against this noise, making it clear that the driver was under the influence of something. He was completely out of his senses.
The young man tried to get the driver’s attention to stop the car. He banged on the trunk lid and shouted, but the driver was lost in his own world. Intoxication had robbed him of his senses. He was honking unnecessarily and hurling abuses at passing vehicles. He turned up the music even louder and was singing along in a drunken voice, enjoying himself. Other drivers were annoyed by his behavior, but he was oblivious, lost in his own revelry.
Suddenly, the car hit a pothole, and something sharp pierced through the trunk, grazing the young man. He turned on his phone’s flashlight and saw it was an iron rod, used for changing tires or jacking up the car. He tried to pry the trunk open with the rod, and his efforts paid off—the trunk opened. He pushed it open slightly and peeked out. The road behind was empty, but the blaring music echoed louder outside than inside. He put his earphones back on and said to himself, "Alright, good. Now let’s enjoy this night ride."
Then, the car approached a speed breaker, but the driver recklessly drove over it, causing the car to swerve and collide with another vehicle. The other driver shouted abuses, and the driver accelerated even more. The young man in the trunk muttered, "This guy isn’t going to make it today. It’s like the saying, 'Fell from the sky and got stuck on a date palm.'"
Suddenly, headlights appeared from the darkness behind, and they started firing directly at the car. The young man barely escaped—perhaps by sheer luck. He pulled the trunk lid down and covered himself. Amid the gunfire, he noticed a car approaching with a license plate bearing the letters "D" and "H." He recognized it immediately—these were members of the Dark Heldar gang. But how had they tracked him this far, and how did they know his location in the dead of night? Many questions arose, but there were no answers.
It seemed the driver had regained his senses. The fear of death had snapped him back to reality. As the saying goes, "Even ghosts dance in fear of death." He pressed the accelerator to the floor, and the car sped like the wind. He was driving erratically to prevent the gang members from taking aim. This reckless driving was tough on the young man, but for now, it was saving their lives. The driver ignored all traffic rules, taking sharp turns and sudden brakes that jolted the young man inside the trunk, but he clung tightly to the lid.
The gang members kept firing, but the driver’s erratic maneuvers and the uneven road made their aim falter. As they drove further, the road became hilly, and the gang changed their strategy. They started targeting the car’s tires. Amid the gunfire, a bullet hit a tire, causing it to burst with a loud bang. The driver lost control, and the car veered off the road, crashing into a rock and rolling down into a ravine.
In the chaotic tumble, the young man in the trunk struggled to hold on, but his grip weakened. Suddenly, a violent jolt threw him out of the trunk and into the trees. After a few moments of being tangled in the branches, he fell to the ground.
His body was badly injured, but he was alive. He looked at the car and saw the driver trying to get out but stuck in the steering wheel. The young man rushed to help him, but just then, a rocket hit the car, blowing it apart. The explosion threw the young man far away. In the distance, the gang members continued their aerial gunfire. He was alone, exhausted, and injured, but still alive.
One after another, two living people had turned into corpses before his eyes. He stood there helplessly, unable to do anything. But he knew he had to leave quickly. The jungle was dangerous with wild animals. He tore his turban to bandage his wounds and wrapped the remaining cloth around his head. Then he moved forward.
But he had barely covered any distance when his body finally gave out. He tried to move forward, but a strange darkness enveloped him, and he collapsed, unconscious.
